Notary Public

Register of Deeds office administers notary public oaths for Alleghany County notaries between 8:00 a.m. and 4:45 p.m., Monday through Friday.

In addition, the office makes a variety of notary forms available to the general public, including applications for initial appointment, reappointment, and change of name or change of address. These are also available for download from the Secretary of State. Click the following link, read the caution about Social Security number disclosurer and then follow the Continue link to the desired forms. You will then mail the completed form to:

You will receive a notice to be sworn in at the Regisiter of Deeds Office. The notary oath fee is $10.00.
