The Alleghany County Board of Commissioners reconvened the meeting from Monday,= April 6, 2009<= /st1:date>, on Wednesday, April 8, 2009, at 8:00am<= /st1:time> in the Board Meeting Room of the County Administration Building, 348 South Main Street, Sparta, North Caro= lina. 

 

Present:  Chair Ken Richardson, Vice-Chair <= st1:PersonName w:st=3D"on">Randy Miller, Commissioner Doug Murphy, Commis= sioner Milly Richardson, County Attorney Donna Shumate, = County Manager Don Adams, and Clerk to the Bo= ard Karen Evans.&= nbsp; Commissioner Steve Roten was absent.

 

Chair Ken Richardson reconvened the meeting at 8:00am.

 

County Manager Don Adams presented a lease agreement from Brad Bedsaul for the property at 1549 US Highway 21 South.  He explained that this lease agree= ment is for EMS.  He reviewed the highlights of the = lease including the terms, rental, use, repairs, alteration/improvements, property taxes, insurance, utilities, signs, entry, damage/destruction and option to terminate.  He explained the m= inor alterations that will be required to make the facility useable for EMS of altering a doorway and installing a shower.<= o:p>

 

Commissioner Doug Murphy and County Manager Don Adams discussed that the County will not have to redo the alterations when the facility is vacated.

 

= County Manager Don Adams explai= ned that EMS can start moving today and by tomorrow evening the facility would be 60% to 70% operational.  He stated that the shower will be installed next week.

 

Chair Ken Richardson talked about the need to clarify what a major repair is.  He further talked about adding lan= guage of $500 clarifying what constitutes a major repair.

 

Commissioner Doug Murphy and Chair Ken Richardson talked about insurance coverage requirements.

 

County Manager Don Adams talked about the insurance amount will be prorated for the portion of time EMS is in the facility.<= span style=3D'mso-spacerun:yes'>  He further talked about making sur= e the facility is insured over the holiday weekend and working out the remainder = of the insurance issues next week.

 

Commissioner Milly Richardson and County Manager Don Adams talked about we are still col= lecting information from the insurance company and insurance will cover most of the expenses.

 

Commissioner Randy Miller made a motion to approve the lease agreement with Brad Bedsaul for $4,000 per month for EMS.  Commissioner Doug Murphy seconded the motion.  Vote 4:0.

 

Being no further business, Commissioner Milly Richardson made a motion to adjourn= the meeting at 8:22am= .   Commissioner Doug Murphy sec= onded the motion.  Vote 4:0.
