Emergency Medical Services

The Alleghany County Emergency Medical Service provides emergency medical treatment and transportation to all the residents, citizens, and visitors of Alleghany County.

In order to meet the demand and need for service, Alleghany County EMS provides 24 hour a day, 7 day a week coverage. This is accomplished by a staff of three separate shifts, each working 24 hours on duty, 48 hours off duty. Each shift consists of four employees who work as teams of two people each. This allows availability of two in-service ambulances. All in-service ambulances are staffed, equipped, and supplied to operate at the full paramedic level of service on every call.

The Alleghany County EMS is a full department of Alleghany County government, reports to the County Manager, and is ultimately responsible to the Alleghany County Board of Commissioners.

Requests for services from the public and the dispatching of ambulances is accomplished by the Alleghany County Communications Center, which is accessed by dialing 911.
