County Budget Information

Alleghany County's budget consists of several different funds with the main fund being the General Fund. The General Fund contains ad valorem taxes, sales tax receipts, federal & state revenues, service fees as well as the expenses for the majority of County departments. The following illustrates the budget timeline for fiscal year 2009/2010.

  • March 3  Budget Worksheets to Departments
  • April 15   Budgets Due
  • April 20   Preliminary Budget Summary to Board of Commissioners 
  • April 16—June 1    Administration and Finance Office preparing budget
  • June 1    Manager's Presentation of Budget
  • June 9    Begin Budget Meetings with the Board of Commissioners
  • June 30  Budget Public Hearing—6:30pm

On June 1, 2009, the County Manager presented the Fiscal Year 2009/2010 Budget Message to the Board of Commissioners.

The Board of Commissioners held a public hearing on June 30 at 6:30pm for citizens to provide comments on the proposed fiscal year 2009/2010 budget.  After the public hearing, the Board of Commissioners adopted the Fiscal Year 2009/2010 Budget Ordinance.  The Budget Ordinance details the revenues and expenses for each one of the funds.
